Articles should be submitted after carefully reviewing the guidelines for writing articles to facilitate standardized reporting easily. It would be worthwhile to adopt standardized protocols while reporting different types of studies. The journal requires that you follow the guidelines and modify the article as appropriate. The standard formats are given for the convenience of the authors.

Authors need to register with the journal before submitting, or if they are already registered, they can log in and begin the five-step process.

Revised Manuscripts

  • For significant revisions, the authors must provide a letter addressing each reviewer's comments separately and in point form, first recording the reviewer's comment and then following it with the author's response.
  • The author must track all changes made in the revised manuscript.
  • The new drafts should be submitted at this website, under the control panel area for the original submission, using the "Upload Author Version" option under the "Review" tab.

Proofs

The Editors reserve the right to correct errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation, to clarify obscurities and remove redundancies, to improve infelicities of style, to enhance or change the way the paper is organized, and to ensure that the paper (text and graphics) conforms to the Journal’s requirements. No significant changes will be made without consulting the author.

Research Report

KJP will consider studies based on the following-

  • Studies should be well-justified, well-planned, appropriately designed, and ethically approved
  • Studies should follow the COPE guidelines on Good Publication Practice
  • Studies from Kerala meeting the above criteria will receive precedence

The manuscript -

  • Should not exceed 5000 words (excluding references and abstract).
  • The manuscript should include a structured abstract, within 250 words, under the following headings: Background (the rationale for the study); Methods (how the study was done); Results (major findings); Conclusions (a discussion of the results). This structured abstract provides a clear overview of the study, helping readers quickly understand its key points.
  • Should be divided into sections with the following headings: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, and Discussion.
  • In the Methods section, name the ethics review board that approved the study, and provide details of informed consent from human subjects and how it was obtained (written or oral).
  • When data are summarized in the Results section, it is crucial to specify the statistical analysis used. This ensures the transparency and reproducibility of the study's findings.

Case Report

  • Should not exceed 1500 words (excluding the abstract and references)
  • Should not use more than 10 references
  • Should have an unstructured abstract within 150 words
  • Should be divided to Introduction, Case report, and Discussion.

Review Article

  • Should not exceed 3000 words (excluding abstract and references)
  • Should have an unstructured abstract within 200 words

New in Psychiatry

Review articles that describe and critically evaluate any new treatment modality that would be of relevance to Psychiatrists practicing in Kerala can be submitted to this section.

  • Should not exceed 3000 words (excluding abstract and references)
  • Should have an unstructured abstract within 200 words

Local Innovation

Detailed descriptions and methodology of any innovative approaches to psychiatric treatment, community interventions, service delivery, etc. implemented and found practical, acceptable and successful (even without any associated objective data) in Kerala settings can be submitted to this section.

  • Should not exceed 2000 words (excluding the references)
  • Should have an unstructured abstract within 200 words

Psychiatry in Kerala

This section will accept articles which examine and review the details of practice of any aspect of Psychiatry in Kerala, suggest steps for improvements in the scenario, etc.

  • Should not exceed 3000 words (excluding the references)
  • Should have an unstructured abstract within 200 words

Viewpoint

Experience-based views and opinions on important, debatable or controversial issues that affect the practice of Psychiatry and mental health can be submitted to this section.

  • The author should have sufficient, credible experience on the subject.
  • Should not exceed 3000 words.
  • Need no abstract

Rating Scale

Malayalam translations of valid rating scales available in English or other languages can be submitted to this section.

  • Authors should include the details of validation process they have used while translating the scale.
  • Include a copy of the original rating scale in English along with the submission. (The original version will not be published in KJP.)

Letter to the Editor

  • Need no abstract
  • Should not exceed a word count of 500 (excluding the references)
  • Should not use more than five references.

Assistant Editors

Assistant Editors are Section editors with decision-making powers. On being assigned a manuscript, they can forward it to the peer reviewer of their choice and, having received their suggestions and further revisions, decide whether the article can be accepted or rejected. The decision, however will have to be endorsed by the editor in chief
