The 12- item Community Attitude towards Mental Illness (CAMI-12) scale was derived from the original Community Attitudes toward the Mental Illness (CAMI) scale developed by Taylor and Dear in 1981.1 These 12 items were grouped into the two subscales: Prejudice and Exclusion (PE) and Tolerance and Support (TS) with six questions in each subscale.2,3 Items 1,2,4,5,6,11 in the scale represent Prejudice& Exclusion, and Items 3,7,8,9,10,12 in the scale represent Tolerance& Support.
The Malayalam version of CAMI-12 total score demonstrated high internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.90 (95% Confidence Interval (CI: 0.86-0.93).4 The internal consistency of the Malayalam version of the two subscales with Tolerance and Support (TS) and Prejudice and Exclusion (PE) was excellent, with Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.89 (95% CI-0.85- 0.92) and 0.90 (95% CI-0.86- 0.93), respectively. The test-retest Reliability of the CAMI-12 Malayalam version was assessed with re-administration after 4 weeks. The intraclass correlation of the total score was 0.89 (95% CI-0.85- 0.92), and for the subscales, TS and PE were 0.88 (95% CI-0.83- 0.91) and 0.91(95% CI-0.87- 0.94).
